Martin Zetová (1959) is an artist who works across a wide range of media: he is often described as a sculptor, performer, conceptual artist, and creator of installations and site-specific interventions. In his works, he often employs subtle shifts in everyday situations, the meaning of which is revealed only gradually. He is interested in social memory, the mechanisms of human behavior, and the ways in which we form our perceptions of the world around us. Are we safe (and what exactly is that?), do we recognize order (and do we know who created it and why?), and do we rely on the fact that we have everything under control (whose control?)? Martin is a relentless commentator on the world around him, employing sharp humor and irony, with metaphor serving as a key tool—all of these are means capable of addressing serious topics without resorting to superficial moralizing.
Martin Zetová is preparing an installation for Boskovice—a set table that invites visitors to sit down. The table is one of the most universal symbols of home and human community in general. It is a place for gathering, dialogue, and everyday rituals—a space where a sense of security and belonging is reaffirmed. However, the artist subtly shifts this seemingly self-evident situation, reminding us that the stability we rely on may not be a given. In an era of armed conflicts, climate change, and growing social inequalities, even ordinary, everyday certainties can prove surprisingly fragile. The installation thus raises the question of whether we are capable of perceiving the warning signs of the world around us, or whether we can only register them once they disrupt our own space and daily experience. What kind of stimulus do we need to be roused from our peace and comfort?
