Even Mice Belong in Heaven
European Film Series
The Twenty-Ninth Journey Through the Fairytale World
Directed by Jan Bubeníček, Denisa Grimmová, Czech Republic–France–Poland–Slovakia 2021, 87 min.
“They tease because they care.”
This is the story of an unusual friendship between a little mouse named Šupito and a young fox named Whitebelly, who find themselves in animal heaven after a tragic accident. Lacking natural instincts, they unexpectedly become the best of friends. A film about hope, about seeking love and courage, and about overcoming prejudice and old wounds. The story shows that what seems like the end may actually be the beginning of something new — and what appears insurmountable may not be so at all. The film is based on the 2006 book of the same name by author Iva Procházková. In 2021, it was selected for the Screening Events section at the Annecy Festival and, a year later, received a nomination for the French César Award in the Best Animated Film category.
