The Great Story of Dissent. A Book about Václav and Kamila Benda.

Writer Alice Horáčková has written a biography of two leading figures of the Czech dissent movement: Václav (1946–1999) and Kamila (born 1946) Benda. In this account of an extraordinary relationship, she draws from archival documents, correspondence, unpublished texts, and memories of friends, fellow prisoners, and prominent political figures.

The event will include a screening of a video recording from 1978: at the time, Václav Benda—a Doctor of Philosophy and cybernetician—was working as a boiler operator on Spálená Street, reflecting on one of his best-known texts, The Nighttime Cadre Questionnaire, while overseeing the household run by Kamila, a gifted mathematician, who was caring for their five small children.

Lecture Will be in Czech Language.
