Petr Blažek: Kings of Majales
This year, the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century, together with the Kampa Museum, has prepared an exhibition on the history of student festivals called Majáles, which is on display in Prague's Kampa Park until 27 July 2022. In his lecture, the author of the exhibition will present in particular the festivities held after the Second World War, including the famous one on 1 May 1965, of which the American poet Allen Ginsberg was elected king. Student fairs reflected the nature and changes of political regimes, the mood of society, and the degree of emancipation of the student movement, which played an important role in many historical ruptures.
